Our general itinerary is to paddle the North Saskatchewan/Saskatchewan River from Edmonton to Manitoba (reaching Cedar lake). Then we would paddle Lake Winnipegosis and Lake Manitoba before reaching the Assiniboine River which would bring us to the forks in Winnipeg. Then we would paddle the Red River to Lake Winnipeg and reach the Winnipeg River. We would then paddle up the Winnipeg River and through a meander of river/lakes until Kenora, Ontario were we would reach the Lake of the Woods. After that we would follow a series of smaller lakes until we reach Rainy Lake and then follow the Canoe Boundaries Waters including Pigeon River until Lake superior. After reaching Thunder Bay we will skip the rest of lake Superior by driving with a rental car to Sault Ste-Mary. Being a single canoe expedition with a young child we decided not to risk in on Lake Superior which has its load of risks. From Sault Ste-Mary we would paddle along the shores of Lake Huron until the French river. This would lead us to North Bay and the Mattawa River and then the Ottawa River for our last stretch until Montreal. Bellow is a more detailed map of our route. Thanks to the 8th grade class of Martine from Canmore for there help developing this route.
